Driving License
Ministry of Transport Guidelines for Driving and Renting a Vehicle Abroad:
Dear Customers,
In preparation for your upcoming trip, we would like to review the Ministry of Transport’s guidelines regarding driving and renting a vehicle in foreign countries. By law, you are required to present the following documents — when picking up the vehicle and while driving:
- International Driving Permit
- Please note the legal and insurance implications:
- Insurance Coverage: Failure to present a valid international driving permit to law enforcement authorities or the rental company in the event of an accident or damage may result in the denial of insurance coverage.
- Refusal to Release Vehicle: Car rental companies and local law enforcement authorities abroad are not obligated to recognize an Israeli driver's license on its own and may refuse to release the vehicle.
- Prohibition on Using a Temporary License: A temporary driver's license (printed on paper) is never valid abroad. An international driving permit is only valid when accompanied by a permanent plastic driver's license.
